The Chartered Banker Institute Scotland Members' Network explore 'The Power of Networks' through an engaging and interactive panel session, as part of the Institute's International Women's Day celebrations. This will be held as a hybrid event on Wednesday 6th March, 2024 at 18:00 GMT at the Barclays campus, 1-4 Clyde Place Lane, Glasgow, G5 8DP (Agora, 1st floor, Windmillcroft - building name) and on zoom. All members and non-members are invited to attend either in-person or virtually.

Many organisations have established networks to inspire inclusion. This event will delve into how various organizations achieve this objective and the benefits experienced by speakers. Specifically, we'll explore how formal networks empower speakers at different career stages, helping them thrive in the workplace and beyond. The event will also provide ample opportunities for audience members to ask questions, fostering an interactive and engaging session.

This Event will be hosted by Laura Patterson (Scrum Master, Tesco Bank) and Zhou Zhou (Agile Strategy & Transformation, Private Bank & Wealth Management | Women in Technology Scotland Co-chair, Barclays). On the panel there will be Katherine Graham (Head of People Technology, NatWest Group), Lauren Robb (Senior Analytics Specialist, Tesco Bank), Carol Anderson (Director, Branch Banking, TSB) and Jamie McMillan (Senior Operational Risk Manager, Barclays)

NatWest | Head of People Technology at NatWest Group

 

Katherine has spent most of her career in the financial services industry.  Initially a programme director by trade, she managed regulatory, and people change in NatWest Group during some of the most challenging times in banking.  

Her academic background is in HR disciplines, holding a MA and MSc from Heriot-Watt and the University of Edinburgh respectively, and she is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. 

However, she is a fan of reinvention, and is now a technologist.  After 4 years heading up the Security Services function for the NatWest Group, she is now on a mission to digitise the colleague experience and has moved into the bank's Technology team. 

Outside of work, Katherine has held non-executive roles in the college sector and is a Lay Member of the Council of the Law Society of Scotland.  She is a supporter of STEM initiatives and has previously helped run events designed to encourage young people to consider careers in cyber security, technology, and banking. 

She is happiest when running through a theme park after her three young boys and believes in creating the right opportunities so that everyone can access learning and drive their own professional development, throughout their whole career.

Tesco Bank | Senior Analytics Specialist

 

Lauren is a Senior Analytic Specialist at Tesco Bank. She has a MSc in Data Science for Business, and she was selected for the first cohort of the Data Lab Alumni 20. She specialises in extracting value through data by better understanding customer and colleague behaviour. She was recently seconded to Listening and Insights Manager.

Lauren is also a chair for the Women at Tesco Bank Network. She is passionate about making a positive mpact on gender equity in the workplace and strives to give women the confidence, resources and support to meet their full potential. She advocates for the better utilisation of data to support diversity, equity and inclusion strategy.

Lauren got married in 2023, to her partner of 10 years. With whom she shares two cats, Roxy and Rebel-Rebel

Carol Anderson MBE

TSB | Director | Branch Banking

 

Carol leads 1400 colleagues across TSB  Branch Distribution.  Supporting the delivery of TSB’s strategy -  Money Confidence for Everyone Every day.  

Previously Carol was Head of Mortgages and Business Banking in TSB.

She is experienced in leading multi brand teams during significant change. A highly motivated, skilled and committed leader with a strong track record of bringing teams together to deliver a great customer experience and demanding business results.  She is also plays an active part in Diversity & Inclusion across TSB.

Carol has a post grad degree from  Durham Business School, and was Chair of the Council of Mortgage Lenders.

Carol serves on the Board of Scotland's Towns Partnership and also leads the banking group for SFE (Scottish Financial Enterprise).

Carol received an MBE for services to banking In Nov 2023.

Carol received Ally of the Year 2023, from Black Professionals Scotland. 

Carol is married and her pride are her  two children and six grandchildren

Jamie McMillan

Barclays | Senior Operational Risk Manager

 

Jamie spent 9 years in the Infantry of the British Army before transitioning to Barclays in Glasgow through the Military Talent Scheme, completing a 12-week internship. Throughout Jamie's military service, deployments took place in various countries such as Afghanistan, Kenya, Norway, France, and Poland.

Joining Barclays in August 2019 marked Jamie's introduction to the Financial Services sector. Since the transition, Jamie has been actively involved in the second line of defence, specifically in Operational Risk. Responsibilities have included roles within the Framework team, and presently, Jamie serves as a risk partner supporting the retail bank.

Despite the perceived disparities between the military and Barclays, Jamie has found striking similarities between the two organizations. Both entities share a comparable size and approach to risk management.
